Four-time WNBA champion Sherly Swoopes came out to attack Stephen A. Smith this weekend

A WNBA legend didn’t hold back when it came to Stephen A. Smith despite previously taking some shots at Caitlin Clark — when she called the veteran ESPN player “a coward.”

Last week, Smith, an outspoken Clark supporter, criticized Sherly Swoopes for not mentioning Clark while praising other WNBA stars on her “Queens of the Court” podcast, prompting Smith to label her “crazy” on her own show.

Swoopes, a four-time league champion, took offense at Smith’s insult and criticism.

“You talk about whoever and whatever you want on your podcast. Right? Why can’t I?” he posted on X on Saturday. “Also, did you listen to the ENTIRE episode? NO! I have a personal relationship with these players and they deserve recognition too.”

Swoopes later added: “Do they talk about them (or others in the league) and give them their support? I hope they take all this energy to the polls and vote!”

The four-time WNBA champion followed up her initial response to Smith with a post that may resonate with current and former pros.

“@stephenasmith BTW… you’re new to this, I’m loyal to this!” she posted on X.

Saving her most scathing comment for last, Swoopes commented: “I’m not sure what he thought he was doing… I’m ready to go on his show! Coward.”

Swoopes, a Houston Comets legend, has previously been criticized for “hating” Clark.

In Smith’s defense, Swoopes had previously criticized Clark while the Fever rookie was still in college at Iowa, as the former pro questioned the legitimacy behind Clark’s NCAA D1 scoring record.

At the time, Swoopes incorrectly said Clark had played five seasons at Iowa when, in fact, he had played four.

Similar to Jason Whitlock, Smith previously mentioned how the majority-black WNBA “resents” the white Clark and her success.

In early August, Elle Duncan criticized Swoopes for hating on Clark, but the ESPN broadcaster retracted her comments and apologized to the Houston Comets legend.
