An onlooker was stunned to see a little boy towing a tinnie with his electric scooter in the middle of a busy street.

A local resident took photographs from his car of the boy struggling to tow his boat on Varley Street in Yorkeys Knob, Cairns, at 8.37am on Thursday.

‘It is not a joke. He could have caused a serious accident,” the resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the newspaper. Cairns Mail.

The alarming sight on the main road was compounded by the fact that the young man was struggling to control the heavy load.

The resident said that because the boy was trying to control the scooter and boat, they ended up in the middle of the street.

According to the Queensland Government, an electric scooter is classified as a personal mobility device that should not be used by children under 12 years of age.

Children between 12 and 16 years old should be supervised by an adult while using the device.

Electric scooters can only be used on a street that has a speed limit of less than 50 km without a dividing line.

If a person violates traffic rules while traveling in a personal mobility device, they can be fined the same as motorists, but will not accumulate demerit points.

In Queensland it is illegal to drive electric scooters on roads that have dividing lines and speed limits over 50km. A child under 12 years of age is also not permitted to use the device and children between 12 and 16 years of age must be supervised by an adult. The street the boy was travelling, Varley Street (pictured), is a main road.
