Chaos has broken out at Cairns Airport following a security breach.

Passengers at Cairns Airport have been forced to undergo further screening and have reportedly been removed from planes.

“They made my partner get off the plane and now everyone is outside, what the hell?” one person wrote in a Facebook post.

“The speaker just said: Due to a security issue, every passenger at the airport is being re-screened… there are LITERALLY THOUSANDS of people,” the person added.

A Cairns Airport spokesperson confirmed that one passenger failed to undergo the required screening, so all people at the airport had to be re-screened.

“Shortly after midday on Monday, a passenger entered the departure lounge at Cairns Airport without undergoing mandatory screening. There was no immediate risk associated with this,” the spokesman said.

‘It is standard procedure and in line with Cairns Airport’s legislative security requirements to re-screen all persons in the Departures Lounge following an incident such as this.

“This process was completed as quickly as possible and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers.”

A video posted on X at around 1:00 p.m. shows a line snaking outside the airport gate, with one traveler asking for answers.

“What is going on with the security line? This is ridiculous,” the person wrote.

“The lines aren’t moving at all. There’s no direction or announcements.”
