Café manager resurfaces after falsely claiming Kim Kardashian dined at his venue with Pete Davidson

The Australian cafe manager who falsely claimed Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson had eaten at his restaurant shamelessly surfaced on Saturday and revealed details about the elaborate hoax.

Matt Black, who grounded and stopped answering phones after his lie was exposed, was seen beaming as he made his way to work at the Botanica cafe he runs on Edge Hill in Cairns in the far north of Queensland.

Mr Black couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he carried sacks of milk and a loaf of bread to his cafe just 24 hours after he shared a rather cheeky status on Facebook about the saga, writing: ‘Keeping up with Matt Black’.

He then broke his silence to insist that he’s just a “larrikin” and that it was all “a joke that backfired.”

Mr Black said he is known for being a bit of an impostor with the locals and never expected to make global headlines.

“I’m a larrikin, I just do these things,” he told TropicNow

“People who know me know that I cause a lot of commotion on social media.”

Mr Black said he left a cheeky comment on a local news outlet’s Facebook page stating that Kim and Pete had breakfast at his cafe and it was all kicking off and the story going global.

“In the end it was a joke and I would set the record straight,” he said.

“I’m in a bit of a tough spot, that’s for sure, but I’ve had a lot of support, other small businesses said dude whether this is real or not, it’s marketing genius.”

Mr Black said he received interest and calls at the cafe from journalists around the world before realizing his little hoax had gotten out of hand.

ABC Far North was the first media outlet to report on Kardashian, 41, and Davidson, 28, visiting far north Queensland.

Mr Black lied to them about his alleged meeting with the American reality star and her comedic boyfriend on Wednesday, while spinning an elaborate yarn.

He claimed that their security team asked cafe staff to put their phones on the counter for the duration of the couple’s date so that no one could take pictures of them eating.

“We had to put our phones on the counter,” he told ABCadding that the security detail also requested that their CCTV footage be kept private.

“There was just me and my barista, and to be honest, he didn’t know who they were. He’s really not acquainted with that sort of thing.’

Mr Black’s claims were later debunked by Daily Mail Australia, forcing the ABC to remove the article.

While Davidson is in Australia to watch his new movie Wizards! filming, his A-list girlfriend has not accompanied him and is still in Los Angeles with her children.

Mr Black’s story was shattered when it emerged that Kardashian had been pictured in LA on Tuesday night, just hours before she was supposedly seen having brunch 7,500 miles away in far north Queensland.

A Davidson representative shot down this fake account, telling Daily Mail Australia: ‘Pete is currently in production in Australia without Kim’.

A source close to Kardashian also confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that she hadn’t been to the country “in years”.

The ABC was far from the only publication to report on the sighting that never happened, as most Australian media gobbled up the brush with fame.

The cafe even posted an Instagram video of television crews gathering outside on the street, writing, “Chasing that scoop!”

Kardashian shared a gallery of snappy snaps Monday while vacationing with Pete at a secluded beach location. ‘Beach for 2’, her message read on Instagram.

Several Australian fans responded to her post, saying they were looking for the pair in tropical Queensland.

‘My eyes are peeling for you in Cairns!’ a fan wrote.

The holiday photos were reportedly taken on an undisclosed date in Tahiti.

The hoax sighting comes after Davidson was touring Cairns (for real) on Wednesday night, even stopping to take pictures with fans.

In a photo shared to Instagram, the New York resident posed next to a local at Timezone’s video game arcade on Abbott Street.

Other fans claimed they saw the King of Staten Island star enter a casino that same night.

Queensland’s tourist hot spot has recently become a hub of A-list activity thanks to David Michôd’s new movie Wizards! will be filmed there for the next three months.

The film also stars Franz Rogowski, Orlando Bloom and Naomi Scott.

Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, is backing the film and the production is expected to inject $14.7 million into the Queensland economy.
