The Koala Caramello will double its price

Two of Australia’s most iconic chocolate treats are set to double in price as the cost of ingredients soars.

On Friday, Cadbury announced that the beloved Freddo Frog and Caramello Koala will be reduced in price from $1 to $2.

Cadbury said the first product change in more than a decade was a result of rising cocoa prices.

“Our Freddo frogs and Caramello koalas have been delighting chocolate lovers for generations,” the company said in an announcement on social media.

‘Due to record global cocoa prices and rising input costs, we have adjusted the recommended retail price from $1 to $2, the first price change in over a decade.’

Cadbury was quick to reassure chocolate lovers that the price increase will not affect the cost of bags of Freddos and Caramello.

‘Shared bags of Freddos and Caramello Koalas are also available at a great price,’ they said.

‘We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we strive to deliver the high-quality chocolate you love, made with the finest local ingredients.’

Products will now cost $2

Australians were left shocked by the shock announcement, with some chocolate lovers branding the move “shocking”.

“I know food prices have been going up and I admit that, but this is outrageous,” one person said.

“You know the world has gone crazy when a good old Freddo Frog now costs $2!” another commented.

Others wonder why chocolates have increased in price when they appear to be smaller than they used to be.

“This is the first price increase in over a decade, but when they do it, it’s a 100% increase!” said another surprised commenter.

“Let’s see if that price goes down when the cocoa price goes down. That would be the real show!”

However, some candy fans were a little more understanding of the price change.

“The world price of cocoa has skyrocketed and unfortunately there is not much that can be done,” one person said.

Another social media user said: “At least they give us an explanation as to why not many other companies do this.”
