The owner of Cadbury is said to be eyeing rival chocolate maker Hershey’s.
If Mondelez’s move is successful, it would create one of the world’s largest bakeries and bring together favorites such as Dairy Milk and Reese’s Pieces.
Hershey’s shares soared more than 13 per cent in New York to give it a value of £30bn.
But Mondelez, valued at £65bn, fell. Mondelez has made a preliminary approach to a possible combination, according to Bloomberg.
The report said deliberations were in the early stages and there was no certainty the discussions would lead to an agreement.
Mondelez also tried to buy The Hershey Company in 2016, but its £18 billion bid failed.
