Behind the vine-covered façade of a rustic barn lies an Italian-inspired farmhouse with a dreamy layout, luxurious bathroom, and sweeping country views.
The luxury barn is called Le Viti, which translates to “the vines” in Italian, and sits high on a hill in the stunning hinterland, just south of Byron Bay near the small town of Newrybar.
Italian and Australian designs were combined during the restoration of the 80 year old barn to create a dream sanctuary perfect for a peaceful getaway.
Oversized wooden double doors open into an impressive terracotta tiled floored entrance below an elegant French chandelier, then up the steps through a grand archway and there is a spacious whitewashed drawing room.
The inviting living room has a bright white color palette that contrasts with the warm black wood fireplace, as well as the high vaulted ceilings and elegant galleried kitchen that runs along the back wall of the room.

French doors open onto a hardwood pergola covered in hanging vines with a dining area and lounge seating that looks out over the 100 year old fig tree on the grounds above the Byron Bay hinterland.
Off the lounge, massive cedar doors lead to the simple yet elegant master bedroom that is filled with light from tall windows that showcase the home’s picturesque views.
The sunken bath is the perfect place to relax and unwind with a sculptural stone bathtub by the window to take in the views, soothing curved plastered walls and a double shower.
Owner Gemma Andrews, who bought the property just three weeks after moving to Northern Rivers, said the dharma gate the bathroom is one of her favorite features of the house.
“At the time I questioned whether it would work or not, due to its angles, but I’m very happy with the result,” she said.

Gemma describes the incredible barn as a “delightful combination of high-end luxury and warm, natural elements.”
Both the name of the barn and the landscape were decided as a tribute to the local Bundjalung people who know Newrybar as a “vine place”.
Guests can book a stay at Le Viti Barn from $600 per night with a three-night minimum stay from Byron Beach Abodes.
