A 33-year-old man has been arrested in dramatic fashion over the death of his 61-year-old mother in the suburb of Byford, just outside Perth.

A man has been charged with the murder of his 61-year-old mother after she was found dead at her home in Perth’s south-east.

Police were called to a home in the Perth suburb of Byford about 7.05pm on Sunday after reports a woman had been seriously injured.

The 61-year-old man was found dead by emergency services who arrived at the scene.

His son, 33, has since been charged with murder.

Police will allege in court that the man fled the scene in a silver Peugeot sedan and was not seen by police until 9.15pm, 200km north of the crime scene in the rural town of Moora.

A WA Police spokeswoman said the man did not stop after the emergency lights and sirens were activated.

The man was arrested in the town of Bindi Bindi, 40 kilometers east of Moora, when police deployed a tire deflation device along the Great Northern Highway.

Tasers were used after he allegedly began acting aggressively and challenging police.

He was arrested and will appear at Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
