A worker has died at a mine just weeks after another fatality at the same site.
Emergency crews were called to the Byerwen mine near Glenden in Queensland’s Bowen Basin on Thursday after a worker was killed in a two-vehicle collision.
Two vehicles, including a transport truck, are believed to have collided with a smaller vehicle that was travelling underneath a larger vehicle. Courier mail reported.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the mine site shortly after 1pm.
A QAS spokeswoman said paramedics assessed a patient with life-threatening injuries at a workplace on Wollombi Rd.
In Queensland parliament, Critical Minerals and Resources Minister Scott Stewart said: “I am aware of reports of a fatality at QCoal’s Byerwen coal mine… I understand emergency services are on the scene now.”
“A full investigation will be conducted into this fatality,” Stewart said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those involved.”

Queensland Health and Safety officials are preparing to arrive at the mine site to begin an investigation into the tragedy.
Police and the forensic accident unit are also on the scene.
On Saturday, August 3, Chris Schloss, a 48-year-old father of five, died in the same mine when he was hit by a crane.
“While it is too early to identify the cause of the incident, initial reports indicate that the incident involved a lift and carry crane,” Resources Safety and Health Queensland said at the time of the tragedy.
“The QCoal family has suffered a devastating loss with the death of Chris Schloss in an incident at the Byerwen mine on Saturday,” QCoal group chief executive James Black said in a statement.
‘Chris has been part of the QCoal family for many years and has been instrumental in the development of Byerwen since its launch.
Our thoughts are with Chris’s wife Amanda, his children and his entire family at this terrible time.
‘The death of such a long-standing, beloved member of the QCoal team has obviously left us in shock.
“His family is facing the worst news they could ever hear and we are helping them overcome this tragedy.”
