BVB star reveals: This is what matters now in the championship race

On the 29th matchday of the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund managed what was possibly the decisive turnaround in this year’s title fight. After FC Bayern made a bad 3-1 loss at Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon, BVB were unscathed with a 4-0 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt and took the lead in the table. The goal is now clear: bring the first championship to Dortmund in eleven years.

Defender Julian Ryerson revealed his approach to the remaining five hurdles in the league, which are still waiting for the Black and Yellows until the end of May: “Don’t get too euphoric. It’s easy to get euphoric now. You can feel what’s going on with the People here are busy in the city, you can tell. We have to stay focused on our tasks and look after ourselves,” said the right-back on BVB’s YouTube channel.

Since moving from 1.FC Union Berlin in the winter, Ryerson has immediately become the undisputed regular at right-back at BVB and has played twelve Bundesliga games for the Westphalians since January.

Against Eintracht Frankfurt, he was not only the most diligent runner in his team with 11.2 kilometers completed, but also one of the safest ball distributors with a 92 percent pass rate.

BVB visiting VfL Bochum on Friday

The Norwegian was only too happy to look back on the 4-0 win in front of his home crowd: “A lot happened and it was a lot of fun. Mainly because the atmosphere was outstanding. It was really great.”

The goal of finally bringing the first championship to Dortmund after 2012 can no longer be shaken, as Ryerson emphasized. However, the 25-year-old warned of appropriate humility in front of the upcoming opponents on the Bundesliga finish line: “Now we have it in our own hands. There are still five difficult tasks waiting for us and we have to solve them.”

First up is the away game at VfL Bochum (from 8:30 p.m.) next Friday evening.
