Sadio Mane has still not really arrived at FC Bayern. In 31 games for the German record champions so far, the Senegalese has 16 points and is not an undisputed regular player.
That is about to change under Thomas Tuchel. The Nagelsmann successor is known for getting along well with world stars. He proved that working with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain.
Ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was repeatedly denied this ability. There was even talk of a dispute between Mane and the 35-year-old. This is said not to have been an invention of the media, but it was significantly smaller than reported.
Klopp convinced with “encouragement and empathy”
Jürgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool FC, also had high demands, which he made up for with “constant encouragement and empathy” towards Mane. This reports “The Athletic”.
Bayern managing director Oliver Kahn recently stated that Mane “hasn’t really got going yet” in Munich because he “first has to get used to Bayern’s tough environment”.
“He’s still finding himself a little bit. He’s a player who needs a lot of encouragement. He’s not used to the kind of competition for places that we have here. That wasn’t the case at Liverpool. We hope that sooner or later he will prevail for us,” said the former national goalkeeper to “Sky”.
Thomas Tuchel also hopes that the 31-year-old will soon be able to build on his performances from Liverpool: “I think he’s a striker who needs to gain self-confidence and security. In the end it’s also clear that he scored a goal needs to feel really good.”
It is unclear whether Mane will already get the chance to do so against Manchester City. Instead of the Senegalese, Thomas Müller could move into the front wing for the injured Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
