Baseball legend Darryl Strawberry has revealed he suffered a heart attack on Monday night – but is recovering in hospital with his family by his side.

The 17-year Major League Baseball pro, who played for the Mets, Dodgers, Giants and Yankees, posted a picture from his sickbed just hours after the health scare, which came on the eve of his 62nd birthday.

Posting on Instagram, he said: ‘Praise God for his amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life tonight from a heart attack.

‘I am so happy and honored to be able to report that all is well. So grateful to the medical team and staff at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis for responding so quickly and getting me through a stent procedure that has brought my heart to full recovery!!!

‘Your prayers are so absolutely appreciated as I continue to recover, in Jesus’ Name!’
