The desperate search for a hiker who fell off a tough hiking trail has come to an end after he was found dead.
The Victorian man, aged in his 30s, fell off a hiking trail at Federation Peak in South West National Park, Tasmania, about 11am on Monday.
Two of his friends contacted police shortly after, prompting search efforts that located his body around 9 a.m. the next day.
A Westpac Police rescue helicopter used in the search recovered the body before transporting the other two to safety.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” Tasmania Police said in a statement.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
