Chinese university student Xiaoting Wang, 21, was found dead inside a high-rise apartment block on Conder Street in Burwood shortly after 8.45am on August 12.

A young university student who was found stabbed to death inside a unit in Sydney’s central west has been photographed for the first time.

Xiaoting Wang, 21, was found dead inside a high-rise apartment building on Conder Street in Burwood shortly after 8.45am on August 12.

Her partner, also 21, is suspected of stabbing her before jumping to his death from a balcony and police discovered her half-naked body in the courtyard of the unit.

Ms Wang is believed to have recently returned to China before flying back to Australia and had recently told friends she wanted to leave her boyfriend.

CCTV footage from inside the complex showed the couple in what appeared to be a verbal argument just hours before their deaths.

A New South Wales Police spokesperson previously told the Daily Mail that Australian officers will investigate whether there was a history of domestic violence between the couple.

Detectives are also believed to be investigating whether the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted before her death.

A friend of Ms Wang, who was interviewed by police on Monday night, told officers the victim wanted to leave her partner.

The 21-year-old is believed to have informed her boyfriend a few days ago that she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him.

The couple are believed to have been living in Australia on student visas.

Superintendent Christine McDonald said last week that officers had recovered the suspected murder weapon from the unit.

Police established a crime scene and covered the man’s remains with a tent.

“It was pretty scary… then they covered it up before we could see much more,” said one resident of the apartment building.

Another resident who lives nearby said he heard a “very loud clap” around 6 a.m.

“I wasn’t sure what it was but I didn’t hear anyone screaming. It was just quiet,” they told Daily Mail Australia.

‘(Then) around 8.15am I saw about eight police officers and three detectives.

“The police were there counting the balconies, there was a white cloth and then it started to rain so they put up a blue tent.”

The man is believed to have been found with injuries to his ankles and police are investigating whether he jumped from the building.

Superintendent McDonald said the incident had shocked the Burwood community.

“There are many people in Burwood and the wider Sydney community who have been affected by Xiaoting’s death,” he said.

‘She, like many international students, came to this country seeking education and opportunity, and for her life to end like this is tragic.

‘I urge everyone affected by the deaths to attend a vigil, being held later this month, to support each other during this time.’

A vigil will be held next Tuesday 27th August at the Burwood Pavilion Centre at 5pm.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as a strike force is being set up to investigate the deaths.
