Washington Wizards star rookie Bub Carrington left the court in a wheelchair Monday night

Washington Wizards star Bub Carrington left the field in a wheelchair Monday night after his head collided with the field after awkwardly making contact with a New York Knicks player.

The terrifying incident occurred in the third quarter while Carrington was defending OG Anunoby in the third quarter.

Carrington tried to strip the ball away from OG Anunoby, missed, then fell over and collided with teammate Jonas Valanciunas on his way down the field.

The collision with Valanciunas diverted his fall from his back and butt to absorbing the impact on the back of his head.

Carrington remained on the field for several minutes holding his head in obvious pain. In the end, this year’s first-rounder of Washington was helped into a wheelchair.

Before being rolled off the court, two towels were placed over Carrington’s head, a sign that the Wizards rookie was having a headache, with the towels giving him a temporary reprieve by blocking some lights at Capital One Arena.

Carrington was ultimately ruled out of the rest of the game due to a “post-traumatic headache,” with Wizards head coach Brian Keefe saying after the game that the rookie was never eliminated on the ground.

Carrington also appeared in Washington’s post-game availability in the locker room, chatting with teammates and showing no obvious signs of discomfort.

The Knicks defeated the Wizards 126-106, pulling away in the fourth quarter with Carrington out of action.

The rookie not missing any time would be welcome news for Washington, which has the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 5-25.

Carrington is one of only two Wizards not allowed to miss a game this season, a fact that could be in jeopardy when Washington plays the Bulls on Wednesday.
