Bryan Kohberger’s fellow prisoners tell how his own case is still in the news

Bryan Kohberger is obsessed with pursuing his own case behind bars and has now found God, attending Mass every Sunday, sources say.

The accused quadruple murderer, who has been held without bail in the Latah County Jail since early January, leaves his cell around 7:00 p.m. on Sundays to meet with a local pastor who leads him in prayer.

“He sits with the pastor and receives his own private mass,” a source inside the jail said. It’s just the two of them. And no, I have no idea what they could talk about.

DailyMail.com spoke to current and former inmates, as well as jail sources, to discuss Kohberger’s time in jail. Among other revelations, he has access to a television during the day and likes to watch the news to follow coverage of his own case.

“He looks at himself all the time,” one inmate told DailyMail.com. ‘It’s really a bit strange.’

By all accounts, the 28-year-old has been a model prisoner, a jail official tells DailyMail.com. This despite facing taunts from inmates who sometimes yell at him as he shuffles past his cells.

When an inmate named Tyson yelled ‘bit**!’ to the accused killer on a recent weekday, Kohberger barely flinched, turning to him with a menacing look without missing a step as he made his way down the hall, according to an inmate who saw it happen.

“He always has the same expression, or no expression,” said one inmate, who met a DailyMail.com reporter in jail. ‘He just looks straight ahead. I haven’t even seen him move his eyebrows or his mouth. He never says anything.

Kohberger spends most of his time alone in a private cell, secluded from other inmates who share cells.

He rarely, if ever, converses with his fellow prisoners, who normally only see him when he walks past them.

It is said that he keeps a steely gaze when he goes out to meet his lawyers or visit the library, and that he is always flanked by several corrections officers who escort him wherever he goes.

The jail houses a couple of dozen inmates in a sprawling basement, directly below the Latah County Courthouse and Sheriff’s Office, near central Moscow.

The opaque windows of some of the cells face a quiet side street, located just 1.4 miles from the rental house where four University of Idaho students were murdered during the early hours of November 13.

Kohberger was extradited to Idaho for the Nov. 13 murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Maddie Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

Police arrested Kohberger, a doctoral student in criminology at nearby Washington State University in Pullman, on December 30.

“I hope he gets the death sentence,” said inmate Harrison Papillon. ‘I’d be surprised if he didn’t’

He has been held without bail in a Moscow jail since January 4, awaiting his next court hearing on June 26. The case could cost him the death penalty.

“I hope he gets the death sentence,” said inmate Harrison Papillon. I’d be surprised if it didn’t.

Latah jail officials remain mum about Kohberger’s time behind bars.

An official told DailyMail.com that Kohberger has behaved well during his time there, without incident. The official also noted that Kohberger’s strict vegan dietary needs are being met by the vendor who prepares meals for the inmates.

But despite his calm demeanor, the inmates say they are well aware of the heinous crime he is accused of committing.

They follow the case closely on the news and talk daily about their infamous fellow prisoner.

“I’ve been reading up on the whole case since it started and I knew he was there,” said recently released inmate Kyler Ledet. “It is disturbing that something like this could happen in my hometown. I’m glad I wasn’t in the same cell as yours.

“I’ve only seen it a few times,” he added. “He was wearing an orange sweatshirt and an orange T-shirt, with two guards accompanying him wherever he needs to go.

“He always has the same expression, or no expression,” said one inmate. ‘Just look ahead. I haven’t even seen him move his eyebrows or his mouth. He never says anything’

Ledet described the jail as “cold and disgusting”.

He shared a cell with five people, who had access to an adjoining “day room” where they could watch TV, eat, shower and talk.

“We always talked about the fact that he was in the same jail as us,” Ledet told DailyMail.com. ‘No one liked the boy, I could tell you that. There is a lot of hate. But we were in awe of him. None of that really happens in Moscow. He surprised a lot of people.

Papillon said he has tried to get information about Kohberger’s time in jail, but officers there don’t share much.

“It’s about 30 feet from my cell,” he said. She is really crazy. I can’t believe she’s here with one of America’s most infamous (alleged) mass murderers.
