A viral moment of a proposal gone wrong has many people on social media wondering whether it was real or staged.
In the video, a couple at a crosstown matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers appeared on a “kiss cam” on the video board.
The male half of the couple, wearing a Rams jersey, stands up enthusiastically and takes the woman’s hand while kneeling on one knee.
The woman, who is wearing a Chargers jersey, appears very uncomfortable and is seen shaking her head and telling the man no.
Just when things couldn’t get any worse, a woman coming down the stairs with a soda in one hand and a tray of nachos in the other spills both on him before apologizing profusely.
A kiss cam image that showed a failed proposal just before nachos spilled out in embarrassment.
But fans who saw the video immediately began throwing cold water on the situation, claiming it could have been fake.
This has been supported by Jourdan Rodrigue, Rams reporter for The Athletic – who posted on Twitter that he “watched rehearsals” for the scene before it happened.
“WWE wrestling is more believable than this,” one user commented below the video on Twitter.
Another wrote: “There’s no way that’s real. He was checking out Mrs Nacho earlier.”
“I hate how stadiums decided to create staged situations to generate laughter and reactions instead of filming genuine fans,” another user lamented.
As for the game itself, it was a low-scoring affair in which the Rams managed to beat their hometown rivals 13-9.
Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett completed 17 of 31 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception on the night.
