‘Brutal’ rapist, 26, who ignored a sexworker’s pleas to quit and then refused to leave because the booking was not over, is sentenced to six years in prison and deported to India

  • Ranvir Singh raped a sex worker in a brothel in Melbourne’s Collingwood
  • Singh, now 26, then refused to leave because the booking was not over yet
  • Sex was initially consensual, but that changed when Singh became ‘rough’

A “brutal” rapist who ignored the pleas of a Melbourne sex worker and then refused to leave because the booking was not over has been jailed for six years.

Ranvir Singh was found guilty of raping the woman twice in a Collingwood brothel in February 2018.

“You ignored her repeated requests to quit. You ignored her physical resistance in light of that resistance, you claimed your power and physical strength over her, “said the Victorian County Court judge, George Georgiou.

The sex was initially consensual, but that changed when 24-year-old Singh got ‘rough’ biting and pinning the woman on the bed.

‘Stop. You’re hurting me, “she told him.

“I can’t take it anymore. You are hurting me.’

Instead, Singh ignored her pleas and kept her on the bed, pinning her arms during the rape.

‘It is well. You can handle it, ‘said the then 24-year-old.

After the attacks, Singh told his victim to go back to bed because “the booking was not over yet,” but she escaped the room and went to her manager.

The woman was chased by the rapes, left with chronic post-traumatic stress disorder and ‘stripped of her will to live’.

“I feel like I’m the one being punished, convicted and excluded from society, silenced,” she told the court earlier.

“Whatever discomfort you feel, it will never come close to the cruelty I experienced firsthand,” the woman told her attacker.

She said she was left with an “empty husk” after the attacks.

The judge said the rapes “clearly humiliated and humiliated her”

“It frightened her, made her powerless, and caused great pain,” said Judge Georgiou.

Singh felt a sense of justice because he was paying for sexual services, the court was told.

“Your cheeky behavior and words to the victim when you raped her match that explanation,” he said.

Singh continued to deny that he had done anything wrong and told a mental health professional that he blamed the police for his conviction.

The 26-year-old from India was sentenced to six years in prison and has to be behind bars for at least three years and eight months before he is eligible for parole.

He is expelled after serving his sentence.
