Kevin Rudd has been mercilessly mocked after posing for a seemingly innocent selfie, amid calls for President Donald Trump to fire him.
Australia’s ambassador to the United States was pictured smiling alongside former LNP staffer Barclay McGain in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington DC on Friday.
McGain, who works for the lobby group Americans for Tax Reform, shared the selfie with a brutal message for the controversial diplomat and former Australian prime minister.
“I ran into this shady character walking the halls of the Capitol today and I have a message,” McGain wrote on Facebook.
‘Dear President-elect Donald J. Trump: On day one, do Australians a favor and deport this illegal immigrant from these United States.
‘Greetings, All Australia’.
Rudd’s position has come under massive scrutiny after negative comments he made in the past about Trump resurfaced.
The former Labor leader has branded the president-elect a “village idiot”, a “traitor to the West” and “the most destructive president in history”.

He later deleted a series of negative comments on social media after Trump’s surprising election victory in November.
But that same month, Daily Mail Australia revealed that Rudd never imagined Trump would return to power, dismissing his first term as a period of “madness.”
“Let us never take a step back from saying we are allies of the United States,” Mr. Rudd said.
‘For all the American predisposition to episodic madness… Look at Trump: how did that happen? “It was a walk on the wild side for all of us.”
Less than nine months later, in March 2023, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese controversially appointed Rudd as Australia’s ambassador to the United States.
He now faces the seemingly arduous task of trying to curry favor and influence with the Trump administration, which is actively hostile toward him because of his past comments.
For example, one of Trump’s top campaign advisors Dan Scavino Jr. gave an indication that Rudd would not last long under the new administration.
Sharing Rudd’s congratulatory message to the new president-elect on X, Scavino Jr posted an hourglass GIF to his two million followers, suggesting his days were numbered.

Trump has also previously signaled his disapproval of Rudd, calling him “disgusting” (pictured: the 47th president of the United States with his wife Melania at his inauguration on Monday).

‘I don’t know much about him. I heard it was a little unpleasant,” Trump told GB News last year.
‘I’ve heard it’s not the brightest bulb, but I don’t know much about it. If he is hostile, he won’t be there for long.
Despite his unpopularity, Rudd has had the backing of both Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.
McGain’s post was inundated with equally critical comments.
“He is known as Kevin Dudd, the town idiot,” one wrote.
‘We ship it to the United States for the same reason we export Fosters beer. “Nobody here likes it,” another joked.
McGain is no stranger to controversy.
He was sacked from his role as an electoral officer for former federal MP Andrew Laming in 2020 after a social media post emerged showing him smiling at a racially offensive figure.
He returned to work for Laming six months later, but was publicly criticized the following year when he dressed up as acquitted American shooter Kyle Rittenhouse for a Halloween party, using the hashtag #NotGuilty.
Rittenhouse shot three people, killing two, with an AR-15 during the Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020, after a white police officer shot a Black man.
The Prime Minister’s office then condemned the costume as “completely inappropriate.”
Despite the controversy, he was photographed working on the Coalition campaign in two 2023 elections.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he took on his new role as a “federal affairs associate” at the lobbying group Americans for Tax Reform in September of last year.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Mr McGain for further comment.
