Fernandes hinted last month that he could consider a shock exit from United just a day after reports suggested the club were open to selling most of their squad in a drastic overhaul this summer.
Erik ten Hag won the Carabao Cup and led United to third place in his debut Premier League season, but has endured a nightmare second campaign at Old Trafford.
United are abandoned in eighth place in the standings, were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage and their defense of the League Cup ended prematurely.
Ten Hag’s men reached the FA Cup final for the second season running after surviving a huge scare against Coventry, but their chances of beating Manchester City in a repeat of last season’s grand final look remote.
Fernandes has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal campaign, contributing 15 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions.

The Portuguese has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of the 2025-26 season (United has the option to extend the deal for a further 12 months) and is widely seen as one of United’s cornerstones.
But Fernandes appeared to cast doubt on his stay at United, where he joined from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, and insisted he needed to feel loved at Old Trafford.
“I’m not thinking about other things right now,” he told DAZNPurtugal on Tuesday.
‘Obviously, it’s not just up to me, right? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time you have to want him to stay. Right now I feel like there is that on both sides.”
The Portuguese said he wants to feel loved at Old Trafford under the new INEOS regime
The Portugal international, however, noted that any discussion about his future would have to wait until after the Euros.
“I don’t think too much about the future, especially because, obviously, this season so far has not been at the level I expected, neither individually nor collectively,” he explained.
“We can still finish the season by winning the (FA) Cup. After that, we have some very important euros ahead of us.
“So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it will not be until after the Euro because nothing will be able to divert my attention from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there is no nothing more important than that right now.”
