Bruno Fernandes has warned that Manchester United have to ignore Manchester City’s recent crisis and focus on their own problems if they want to “hurt” their neighbors even more in Sunday’s 195th derby.
Pep Guardiola’s side have lost seven of their last 10 games and won just once as they prepare to face 13th-placed United at the Etihad.
But Fernandes insists United have to forget about City’s poor form and address their own problems as Ruben Amorim’s side try to avoid a third successive Premier League defeat.
“It doesn’t change anything for us how they are at the moment, because we have to think about ourselves,” said the United captain.
‘We know that it is City, a huge derby. We know what it means to the fans and it means a lot to us too, so we just have to go to the game and win without thinking about who is ahead of us.
“We all know this is a huge game and they have huge players. They probably aren’t winning as much as everyone would expect.

“But it doesn’t matter how much momentum they have. We have to think about ourselves, what we can do to hurt them and win the game, and that’s it.”
After United won the FA Cup by beating their neighbors at Wembley in May, City lifted the Community Shield in the summer in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
But Fernandes insists United must treat the derby like any other match, adding: “It’s not about getting the result at the Etihad, it’s about trying to win games.” That’s what we want to improve. Obviously we play against City and we want to win the game. But it doesn’t matter if it’s just another game, we will try to win in the same way.
“We have to focus on ourselves because we are not at the level we want, so we cannot think about the momentum of others.
‘We just have to think about ourselves and do the work we have to do to get better positions. “We need points in the league, so it doesn’t matter who we play.”
