The 7News Spotlight program had provided the $4,000-a-month accommodation for a tell-all interview that the network insists it did not pay for.
‘7NEWS Spotlight did not pay Bruce Lehrmann for the interview, however, the show assisted with accommodations as part of the filming of the story,’ executive producer Mark Llewellyn he told news.com.au.
Currently, Mr. Lehrmann is studying law and lives with his golden retriever Sunny.
He agreed to the interview in April 2023 on the condition that 7News Spotlight pay one year’s rent.
The chain told the Walkleys Foundation that no money was exchanged for the exclusive.
Court documents in Mr Lehrmann’s defamation case in the Federal Court against 10 Network and Lisa Wilkinson later revealed the extent of the settlement.
Under the agreement, he agreed to provide “all information, documents, videos and photographs” requested by Seven Network, but later insisted that he had only provided the interview.
The interview between Lehrmann and Liam Bartlett aired in May and promised to break Lehrmann’s silence regarding the rape allegations against Brittany Higgins.

In court, barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC, appearing for The Project presenter Lisa Wilkinson, asked Mr Lehrmann if he was ‘part of the agreement’ that the network paid his rent to which he responded: ‘Yes… for filming in those places.’
When asked how much the deal was worth, Mr. Lehrmann replied that he did not know and that the “network took care of the hosting arrangements.”
Lehrmann is suing Wilkinson and Network 10 in Federal Court over his 2021 interview with Brittany Higgins on The Project, during which Higgins first publicly alleged that he raped her in Parliament in 2019.
Although he was not identified, he claims that friends and former colleagues were able to identify him as the alleged rapist.
He has always maintained his innocence regarding the accusations.
