Bruce Lehrmann speaks for the first time in public two years after Brittany Higgins’ rape claims shattered his world – as he finally tells his side of what happened that fateful night in a minister’s office

Bruce Lehrmann has broken his silence in a TV interview two years after Brittany Higgins accused him of raping her in Parliament House.
Mr Lehrmann was featured in an extended episode of 7News Spotlight on Sunday evening – in which journalist Liam Bartlett asked him a series of direct questions about what happened the night Brittany Higgins claims he raped her.
Ms Higgins alleged that Mr Lehrmann, her former colleague, sexually assaulted her in Parliament House after a night out in 2019.
Prior to Sunday’s tell-all interview, Mr Lehrmann’s version of events had only been told through his trial in the ACT Supreme Court last year – when his police interview was played before a jury.
The former staffer strongly denied any sexual contact with Ms. Higgins during that interview, but never disclosed his version of events to the media.

Despite speculation that Mr Lehrmann was paid to do the interview, a spokesman for the network said that was not the case.
“7NEWS Spotlight did not pay Bruce Lehrmann for the interview, but the program helped with accommodation as part of filming the report,” they said.
Mr Lehrmann was tried in October last year at a 12-day hearing, but was overturned after a juror brought banned literature to the court.
Shane Drumgold, ACT’s Director of Public Prosecutions, dropped the case altogether in December over concerns about Ms Higgins’ mental health.
