A horror crash on the Bruce Highway killed a 13-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman.

Police believe a semi-trailer traveling south collided with the rear of two utility vehicles near the Ragland Station Road intersection in the Gladstone region of central Queensland about 11.11pm on Tuesday.

The road was closed in both directions while the Forensic Accident Unit investigates the circumstances of the collision.

The woman and the teenager, who were traveling in one of the vans, died at the scene.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, and another passenger in that vehicle, a 15-year-old boy, were taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the other ute suffered minor injuries.

For light vehicles there is a detour through the municipality of Raglan.

More to come.
