Brownlow Medal winner Lachie Neale and wife Jules have announced that they are expecting their first child.

On Tuesday, the 27-year-old Brisbane Lions midfielder shared a photo of himself on Instagram kissing his wife’s baby belly.

‘Can’t wait to meet your baby girl,’ the AFL star wrote in the caption, alongside a baby emoji and a pink ribbon.

She wrote in the long caption, “We’ve dreamed of meeting you for a long time, little one.

“The road to you was long and arduous, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It changed me.

“The journey to you made me realize that I am stronger than I ever thought I could be and that I can do anything with your father’s support.

‘You were well worth the wait and I am so willing to hold you in my arms and be your mother,’ she added, sending ‘extra love’ to other women trying to conceive, saying, ‘ You are so strong, I see you, I am you. ‘

Jules also shared a short video on her Instagram story of a cute baby dress for her unborn daughter, writing, ‘My heart can’t handle this level of cuteness.’

The couple’s friends and family congratulated the couple on their exciting news, including Jessie Murphy, the wife of AFL star Marc Murphy, who wrote: ‘Congratulations two.’

Lachie and Jules were married in Perth in November 2018, before moving to Brisbane together – where Julie was based.

He switched from Fremantle to the Lions after seven seasons to settle in Brisbane shortly after their marriage to Julie.

He explained at the time that moving to Brisbane had been difficult for Julie, who had built a barbershop ‘from scratch’ and had to give it up to build a relationship with him across the country.

The couple’s exciting baby news comes after Lachie had a near miss that nearly resulted in a jaw fracture in a game against the Geelong Cats at GMHBA Stadium in Victoria last week.
