A mother sobbed in court when she was charged with ‘unique manslaughter’ after allegedly bribing her friend and killing her while she was four times over the limit.

The Broome Magistrates Court heard that Tammy Lorimer jumped into her car on Sunday after an afternoon of heavy drinking at their home in Cable Beach, WA.

But as she backed out of the driveway to go to the local shops, the court was told that lover Doreen-Joan Lindsay – who was “intoxicated” – was walking up the path of the car.

She was reportedly hit by the car and then dragged downstairs before Mrs. Lorimer noticed the car and stopped to find her friend with fatal injuries.

Police and ambulance arrived on the scene, but were unable to save Mrs. Lindsay.

A breath analysis revealed that Ms. Lorimer had a breath alcohol content of 0.215, four times the limit.

The couple had been drinking with three teenagers earlier in the day, reported The Western Australian.

The pair were known in the area and are said to be active members of the LBTQI+ community and big fans of Aussie Rules.

Magistrate Stephen Sharratt said the case was unique in that there were no allegations of violence between the couple leading up to the tragedy.

But the court heard that Ms Lorimer had been banned from driving for 42 months in September for a previous offense of drink-driving.

She had “a large number of traffic violations,” Magistrate Sharratt said. He added: “I think I’ll leave it at that, she looks quite stressed.”

Ms Lorimer is charged with “unlawfully killing someone in circumstances other than murder.” She made no plea.

She was given a $5,000 bail and is not allowed to drive and must report to the local police station three times a week, where she can undergo a breath test and have to blow less than 0.05.

Ms Lorimer is due to appear in court on January 19, 2022.
