Brooklyn man killed his stepbrother over money fight, police say

A Brooklyn man was arrested Thursday for fatally shooting his stepbrother in a fight over money, police sources said.

Samuel Hippolyte, 26, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the January 17 killing of Billy Hippolyte, police said.

Police responding to a gunshot alert from the NYPD’s Shot Spotter detection system found Billy Hippolyte, 40, on E. 83rd St. near Flatlands Ave. in Canarsie around 3 p.m., they said. police.

He had been shot in the torso.

The younger Hippolyte got into a gray Toyota Highlander SUV and took off toward the Belt Parkway, sources said at the time.

Doctors rushed the victim to Brookdale University Hospital, but were unable to save him.

Police later determined that the stepbrothers got into a fight over money before Samuel pulled out a gun and shot the older man. The amount was not immediately known.

Before Thursday, the suspect had never been arrested, police said.

His arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court was pending Thursday afternoon.
