Proving that they are stronger together, two brides killed a tandem barbell weighing 253 pounds in their wedding dresses during their wedding.
Lisa Yang and Wek Hernandez, who recently got married at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, wanted to include their love of fitness in the ceremony.
With their closest and dearest encouragement – not to mention their local weightlifting team – the brides completed the lift three times as their photographer captured the impressive moment.
Impressive! The brides from Brooklyn, Wek Hernandez, left, and Lisa Yang love fitness so much that they wanted to include it in their wedding ceremony
Ceremony: the couple said their weightlifting team was even there to witness the deadlift moment after exchanging vows
Share the photo on Instagram, photographer Eileen Meny said she is a & # 39; great advocate to do your wedding your own way. & # 39;
The brides also thanked their wedding planner, Large and small events, of which they said they coordinated the lift during the ceremony.
The photo resonated with other fitness enthusiasts after it was shared by multiple lifestyle accounts.
& # 39; OMG so great & # 39 ;, one person wrote, while the other simply said: & # 39; This is really great & # 39 ;.
Lisa told me Women's health that the idea came about when the couple had played with ideas for a unity ceremony.
& # 39; We thought of the usual candle lighting, planting trees, pouring sand, and none of those represented Wek and I, & # 39; she said.
& # 39; We were joking about doing a tandem deadlift.
& # 39; At the time it seemed ridiculous because we are Olympic weightlifters, deadlift is not even our most important sport.
& # 39; But a snatch or clean-and-jerk in dresses might be a bit dangerous, so we chose three deadlifts. & # 39;
Fit: exercising is an integral part of life for Lisa, left and Wek, right
& # 39; Stronger together & # 39 ;: Lisa, left, and Wek said the deadlifting symbolized how the pair & # 39; stronger together & # 39; after saying & # 39; I do & # 39;
Awake, one physiotherapist, added: & # 39; It was intended not only as a symbol of unity, but also as an explanation: individually we are strong, capable women, but together we are stronger. & # 39;
Fitness is an important part of the life of the couple, originally met at the gym in 2014.
& # 39; We have trained at least three days a week for the past two to three years, & # 39; said Lisa.
The couple enjoy both CrossFit and weightlifting, and often compete together. According to her website, Wek is a former half-marathon runner who now trains and competes as a 108-pound Olympic-style weightlifter in Russian style.
& # 39; Weightlifting is very special to us, & # 39; said Wek. & # 39; We lift with our local team in Brooklyn. They are family to us, and the entire weightlifting team was at our wedding. & # 39;
& # 39; I think some were shocked, & # 39; she added, talking about the wedding party that was watching.
& # 39; When we saw our photos while lifting, one of our bridesmaids looked disgusting, & # 39; she laughed. & # 39; I was just so happy and present! I mean, we were deadlifting in Prospect Park in wedding dresses that professed our love. It was great! & # 39;
