Brooke Shields’ youngest daughter first learned of her mother’s sexual assault when she watched the documentary Pretty Baby

Brooke Shields spoke out about being sexually assaulted in the 2023 documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, but her youngest daughter didn’t learn of the attack until she saw the film.

“Part of being a mother is learning from your children,” said author Brooks Shields is Not Allowed to Get Old People.

“I didn’t prepare her,” said the 59-year-old mother of two. “It was a communication error.”

‘I had explained to her that it was an exploration of the sexualisation of women in my industry, but I naively thought that because we had such a solid, healthy, fairly normal existence and I’m not completely damaged, she would be like, “Wow, you’ve been through a lot, but look where we are today.”

Her 18-year-old daughter, Grier, had a completely different reaction.

“I was learning things at the same time as the world and I took it deeper and more personally,” the teen told the outlet. “I couldn’t even get over it.”

“I said, ‘But there is a happy ending,'” Shields replied, “and she said, ‘I will never accept the thought that anything bad happened to you.'”

“She ended up missing the happy part,” the Golden Globe nominee said.

‘She felt helpless and as mothers, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions.’

The Mother of the Bride actress said her eldest daughter Rowan, 21, knew about the assault before watching the film.

She shares both daughters with her husband Chris Henchy, 60.

The Emmy-nominated documentary looked back at Shields’ career, including her rise to fame as a child actress playing a prostitute in the controversial 1978 film Pretty Baby.

She also talked about starring in the films The Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, and the impact being a teenage sex symbol had on her life.

Shields revealed she was sexually assaulted in public for the first time in the Emmy-nominated documentary. She decided to identify her attacker.

The film was the first time she publicly revealed that she had been sexually assaulted in her early 20s by a powerful Hollywood figure.

Shields has chosen not to publicly name her attacker.

“Watching the documentary or seeing your parents as a public figure that other people have opinions about is a weird situation. I’ve learned a lot from listening to them,” Shields said.
