Brooke Shields reflects on her relationship with ex-husband Andre Agassi as she opens up on tennis icon being more famous than her: ‘It felt good to be smaller’

Brooke Shields has opened up about her relationship with ex-husband Andre Agassi.

In a new interview with AARP ReviewThe 58-year-old actress – who is now married to Chris Henchy – has looked back on her past romance with the tennis phenom, now 53 – who she was married to from 1997 to 1999.

“With André, it also felt good to feel smaller than someone else, because he was so famous and number one in the world,” she remembers.

Brooke added: “Everywhere we went he had tons of bodyguards.

“I could sit down because it wasn’t my world. He was the first out of the car when we arrived at the events.

Brooke also opened up about how her ex supported her during her split from her late mother, who was her manager.

“It was a transition I needed. I wasn’t strong enough to separate from my mother Teri alone,” she admitted to the publication. “I kept falling back.”

During a preliminary interview with People she revealed that her therapist always tells her, “I will always be grateful to André because he helped you separate from your mother with love.”

At the time, she also said of her longtime relationship with the athlete: “We understood each other’s journeys with being famous – or infamous – at such a young age .”

Shields continued with screenwriter and producer Henchy, marrying him in 2001.

The two girls share 20-year-old Rowan Francis and 17-year-old Grier Hammond.

Speaking of her current partner, she exclaimed to AARP: “He makes me laugh. I think I always knew I needed solid and normal.

“And he’s a very, very good father. He goes to every basketball game, every volleyball game. And the children also love being with him.

Speaking about her daughters, the proud mother described the young girls as old souls.

“They are very old children,” she noted. “Personality-wise, Rowan is like a golden retriever puppy and Grier is like an Abyssinian cat.”

Last Valentine’s Day, Brooke shared snaps with her husband in an Instagram carousel.

She wrote: ‘Happy Valentine’s Day, my love! XX.’
