Brooke Boney shocked Today show viewers in March when she announced her resignation on live television.

The 37-year-old news and entertainment reporter confirmed she will be stepping down from her role after the Olympics in July and August to pursue an exciting new career opportunity.

Jayne Azzopardi, who co-hosts Weekend Today with Clint Stanaway, will replace Boney.

According UmbrellaThe news was emailed to staff by Nine’s director of morning television, Steven Burling.

Azzopardi, 44, joined Nine in 2009 as a political journalist in Canberra before joining the Sydney newsroom in 2011.

She was also previously a news presenter for Weekend Today and was appointed as presenter in April 2023.

Meanwhile, Australian entertainment reporter Renee Bargh will join Today on a “more regular basis” alongside veteran Richard Wilkins.

Bargh worked as a weekend co-host for Today Extra and also co-hosted The Voice Australia alongside Darren McMullen in 2020.

Brooke Boney shocked Today show viewers in March when she announced her resignation on live television.

Boney burst into tears as she announced that she will be heading abroad in March to pursue a master’s degree in public policy at the prestigious University of Oxford.

“I have some very important news for you this morning. I have been offered a place at Oxford University later this year, which means I will be leaving the programme after the Olympics,” Boney said on air at the time.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail right now, because there will be plenty of time for goodbyes and thank yous, but I just wanted to share that good/bad news with you all this morning.”

She admitted that the decision to leave her role on the show was “really difficult.”

“I had always dreamed of being able to study at a foreign university and I felt that it was the right time to take that step,” she explained.

“I’m so grateful to be able to come here every day and I love you all so much. This has made the decision very difficult but it means you will all have to plan trips to the UK to come and visit me.”

Boney first joined the Today Show in 2019 as an entertainment reporter, replacing longtime editor Richard Wilkins, who moved to Today Extra.

Last year, Boney was promoted to news anchor, replacing Alex Cullen, who moved to focus exclusively on sports.
