Brittany Higgins showed off her growing baby bump for the first time and revealed she’s having a baby.

The former Liberal Party political staffer and her husband David announced in July they were expecting their first child after a lavish Gold Coast wedding a month earlier.

On Sunday night, Higgins took to Instagram to give an update on her pregnancy.

She also shared a series of recent photos, including her in a brown dress that showed off her baby bump at her home in Bordeaux, France.

She also shared a picture from a recent ultrasound, a selfie with her husband David Sharaz, and a photo from their chat.

She admitted it had been a “very stressful” pregnancy, on top of a recent defamation trial against her former boss, Liberal senator Linda Reynolds.

“A fortnight ago, David and I had the shock of our lives after the midwife told us that halfway through my second trimester my blood test had raised some red flags,” Higgins wrote.

“Our baby had a high chance of suffering from a genetic disorder, which we wouldn’t have minded, but alarmingly, could mean he might be incompatible with life outside the womb.

‘After an amniocentesis and a seemingly endless wait, our prayers were answered. Our little one is perfectly fine and healthy.

“My mind can’t help but go back to that hospital waiting room, full of pregnant women, who were having the same test as us and if they were so lucky.”

Higgins ended the post by thanking her friends and family who have been “a huge rock” for her and Mr Sharaz during the “last few weeks of uncertainty”.
