Brittany Higgins and David Sharaz add to their Gold Coast home

Date:

Brittany Higgins is outfitting her luxurious new rental home with the latest appliances while exploring the neighborhood with her fiancé.

The former political staffer and her soon-to-be boyfriend, David Sharaz, moved into the beachside house on the Gold Coast about two weeks ago.

Ms Higgins left Brisbane to finish her law degree at Bond University on the Gold Coast after receiving a large Commonwealth settlement.

The payment followed the unsuccessful prosecution of fellow Liberal Bruce Lerhmann, whom Higgins accused of raping her on a sofa in Parliament House.

Sharaz, who quit her job when the couple moved in, helped delivery people move a new refrigerator inside the home on Saturday.

The refrigerator will join other expensive furnishings in the luxurious home, including a $500 white velvet mirror and a $330 accent end table.

Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz at another time during the day took a walk through their Gold Coast neighborhood and visited a local cafe.

Sharaz wore the same dark green T-shirt and fluorescent shorts she donned to move the fridge, while Higgins opted for a sundress in the Queensland heat.

The outing also brought home something else to outfit the new house with Mr. Sharaz carrying a small potted cactus around town.

More furniture for her home is on the way as removal workers evacuated her Brisbane home on Thursday.

Workers were seen removing furniture and bags of belongings from the home and loading them into a moving truck.

The couple showed off their new home on social media posts when they moved in, with photos showing how close it was to the beach.

His mother, Kelly Higgins, who is a real estate agent, commented: ‘It’s exactly what you deserve my angel.’

‘A beautiful house in a beautiful location. Lots of happy memories to share and make. I miss you already xx.’

Sharaz, who left his job at Southern Cross Austereo in mid-February, posted his own photo of a beach near his new home with the caption: “No, I don’t miss 9-5.”

Ms Higgins settled with the Commonwealth in December for an undisclosed amount, after she sought to sue for damages for sexual harassment, discrimination and neglect.

He later denied claims that his payment was worth $3 million, insisting that he received “much less” and threatening legal action if the figure was repeated.

The month-long trial in the ACT Supreme Court against her alleged rapist, Mr Lehrmann, was aborted in October due to jury misconduct.

She alleged that Lehrmann raped her in Parliament after a night out in March 2019. She pleaded not guilty and maintained her innocence.

The ACT’s director of public prosecution, Shane Drumgold, dropped the case entirely in December, citing concerns for Ms Higgins’ mental health.

Lehrmann sued Channel 10, Lisa Wilkinson and News Corp in Federal Court for publishing stories about Higgins’ allegations in February 2021.

The first day of the procedure on Thursday did not go well for him, as he was questioned about drunken text messages he sent to his then-girlfriend when Ms Higgins went public.

Lehrmann’s girlfriend at the time, Greta Sinclair, was distraught over the extraordinary televised allegations.

He placated her by sending her messages suggesting her lawyer had told her he was a “pawn” and “part of a larger political hatchet job.”

During cross-examination in Sydney Federal Court on Thursday, Lehrmann admitted to Ten’s lawyer, Matthew Collins SC, that Korn never said that.

“If they name me tonight, I run for millions in defamation… (Mr. Korn) said that I will not see the light of a court,” he reassured her.

Later that night, at 10:02 p.m., he sent Ms. Sinclair another message saying, “He (Mr. Korn) is still taking notes though, he’s very professional.”

While being questioned in court, Lehrmann admitted that Korn was not, in fact, taking notes during their conversation and insisted that he just wanted Sinclair to feel good.

‘I wanted her to think I had my house in order.’

Dr. Collins suggested that the meeting with Mr. Korn was “not at all professional” because “you were there pouring your heart out and drinking Scotch” and “Mr. Korn wasn’t taking notes.”

Mr Lehrmann admitted: ‘It wasn’t. Not that I remember, no.
