A stunned tourist claims he was “ripped off” after being charged £25 for two scoops of lemon sorbet.
Bailey Turvey traveled to Italy’s Amalfi Coast on a four-day work trip in July and took a boat trip to Positano, a beloved vacation spot for celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Samuel L. Jackson.
Since the region has some of the best lemons in the world, the 24-year-old decided to try out its famous sorbet.
Bailey bought two of the desserts, with a scoop served inside a hollowed-out eight-inch-high lemon, for himself and his 23-year-old friend, Oliver Bashford-Squires.
But the content creator “couldn’t believe it” when he said he had shelled out €30 (£25) for them by tapping his card into the machine, with each slice costing just over £12.

Bailey shared a video of himself looking bewildered as he held the ice cream with the caption ‘POV: You forgot to ask the price before ordering your gelato in Positano and you’re charged €30 for two scoops of lemon sorbet.’
People took to the comments section to complain about the price, with one claiming they had purchased a “special offer for tourists.”
“I think we got scammed,” he admitted in the comments section.
Bailey, from Brighton, said: “I was very shocked. I was expecting it to be expensive but I wasn’t expecting that kind of money.
‘Positano is known for its lemons, we wanted to try it. We saw everyone walking around the streets and heard that the lemons were from the region.
‘We don’t check the price on the menu. When you go out on the street they don’t give you the prices, so you buy it and they charge you whatever they want.
‘The shop owner didn’t even say how much it cost, he just showed me the card reader.
‘I didn’t say anything at the time, I just stayed silent. As we walked away, I said to my friend, ‘Guess how much they cost?’ I couldn’t believe it.
‘I think they promote it because it’s inside a lemon, but it’s the equivalent of a scoop and a half.
Bailey admitted that while the sorbet tasted good, it was “not worth the price,” so she’ll be sure to check the cost before paying for items in the future.
“They make it look big with a huge lemon, but you can’t eat the lemon,” Bailey said.
‘They don’t even sell it in one or two scoops, they just sell it as ‘lemon sorbet’ so they can get a little more out of it.

“My friend was just as surprised. I was paying for everything, so he didn’t have to worry. He didn’t take as big a hit to his bank account as I did.”

Bailey said: “It’s definitely a tourist trap. The lemon sorbet was good, but not worth the price.”
Positano is a beloved destination for celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Samuel L. Jackson, but some claim it is a “tourist trap.”
‘It was definitely a mind game to try to trick yourself into feeling less bad for paying that price.
‘Holiday money is a bit different to normal money. If it was an everyday thing I wouldn’t believe it, like if I was at home and spent it on a coffee.
Next time I buy ice cream I will check the price.
TikTok users took to the comments to express their surprise at the high price.
One user wrote: “You didn’t order a straw. You ordered a special product for tourists.”
Another commented: ‘Is that really what they charge?’
A third user wrote: “That’s what credit cards are for.”
