Tourists were left baffled when a Benidorm beach disappeared in thick fog, prompting Brits to return home to bask in sunny 23C weather.
Tracy Stocks and her husband decided to travel to Benidorm in search of sea and sun, but the couple were shocked when a thick fog appeared on Sunday, May 5, enveloping the beach while they were supposed to be sunbathing.
The 43-year-old assumed a fire had broken out in a nearby apartment, but decided to stay on the beach to film the spooky scene, unlike most other tourists who packed their bags and fled the strange phenomenon.
On Facebook, the caretaker shared a video of the mysterious fog with the caption “what happened” to see if anyone could help identify it.
The video shows a dark gray fog covering the entire beach and surrounding bathers. Some beachgoers are seen hastily packing their belongings.

Facebook users responded to the comments and identified the mystery cloud as thick “sea fog,” caused by a temperature difference between land and water.
Other users joked about how sunny it was in the UK in comparison, with one user joking: “it’s beautiful and sunny in Derby.”
The couple, who frequently travel to Benidorm, arrived on April 10 for a few weeks of relaxation and Tracy revealed she had never experienced anything like sea mist.
Tracy, who lives in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, said: “It was really strange.” We were sunbathing and saw what we thought was smoke coming out of the new town. It surrounded us and we were in the middle of it.
“Everyone was running off the beach. I didn’t know if it was smoke or something. I thought one of the apartments was on fire.
“We looked at it for a while. We couldn’t see any of the buildings anywhere or any rocks. It was just pure fog. We asked the locals what it was.
“Someone told us it was sea fog,” he said.

“Everyone had their cameras out and even the local restaurants were coming out and pulling out their phones to see what was going on. A lot of us ran away.
‘It’s something you would expect in the UK, but not in Benidorm. It was very strange.’
The 43-year-old revealed she often goes to Benidorm to sunbathe and tan and found it “ironic” that those in the UK experienced a sunnier holiday than her.
By posting the video on Facebook, Tracy hoped someone would reveal to her what the mysterious smoke-like cloud was.
Tracy said: ‘My friends and family were telling us how hot it is in the UK. They were crackers. Normally when we are outside it rains in England. It was quite frustrating really. But at least we have the beach close to us.
‘I sent photos to friends and they were all asking what it was. We didn’t get that in Lincoln.
‘I posted the photos to see if anyone knew what it was. It was a little different.’

However, the eerie “sea fog” has not deterred the Benidorm couple, as while they are due to fly back to the UK on May 12, they are currently looking to extend their stay.
Many users took to the comments to identify the strange fog.
One user said: “It’s just sea fog.” Calm down people.’ Another user said: “Oh it’s amazing to see the sea mist.” A third user said: “When cold air meets hot air.”
Other users joked about it being hot and sunny in the UK, with one joking: “we in Britain have borrowed the sun for a day.”
