19-year-old Briton ‘is raped on a beach’ while on vacation on the Greek island of Ios

A British woman has accused a stranger of raping her on a beach while vacationing on the Greek island of Ios, according to local media.
It is understood the 19-year-old tourist filed a sexual assault complaint with Greek authorities shortly after midnight.
The teenager told local police she was raped between 9pm and 10.30pm last night on the beach in the Mylopotas area after drinking alcohol, Proto Thema reports.
ELAS has just opened an investigation to identify and arrest the alleged sexual aggressor.
Mylopotas is one of the most popular beaches in Ios due to its beautiful sandy bay and crystal clear waters. It lies about 2 km south of the island’s capital, Chora.
The latest incident comes amid a horrific string of sexual assault allegations from British women on holiday abroad this summer.
Last month, a 21-year-old British tourist reported being raped by a 47-year-old Greek in Rhodes.

She claimed the older man took her to a ‘healthcare shop’ in Lindos and took her to a hotel in Pefkos where he allegedly forced her to have sex with him.
This report came just 24 hours after an 18-year-old Briton claimed she was attacked at a nightclub in Faliraki – around seven miles south of Pefkos. She told police that she was injected with a narcotic substance and then completely lost her memory.
In June, a 20-year-old Briton also came forward to say she was raped at sea while on holiday in Rhodes after visiting a beach with a 23-year-old Albanian man she had met online.
The man, who insists the sex they had was consensual, was later released but banned from leaving Greece.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, a 21-year-old Briton told Greek police she was raped by an Israeli after meeting him at a nightclub in Athens.
She told authorities that during the sexual assault, the man’s three friends appeared out of nowhere and filmed her with their cellphones.
Rapes of British women have also been reported in other popular destinations such as the Spanish resort of Magaluf.
Yesterday it emerged that a group of five French tourists and a Swiss tourist had been arrested after a British teenager was allegedly gang-raped at the resort.

A judge in the capital Palma found there were video clips of the alleged rape on at least one of the suspects’ phones, police said.
She met the alleged rapists on Monday evening and then went to the hotel room of one of the suspects, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by the six, according to the Mallorca Police press office, citing the statement of the alleged victim.
The Civil Guard showed up at the hotel after receiving a phone call from hotel security staff who found the young woman crying in despair.
Police arrested the suspects, all over the age of 20, shortly thereafter. The alleged victim received immediate medical attention and counselling.
In July, two Irish men were arrested on suspicion of raping a British tourist in a hotel – also in Magaluf. She told police the men sexually assaulted her in the early hours of July 19.
Another 21-year-old British woman also claimed this summer that she was raped at a popular holiday beach in the Algarve after being dragged into the bushes after being separated from her friends.
