Two British citizens have been arrested in Spain following the death of a British pensioner who is believed to have suffered a fatal fall.
The unnamed woman, aged 76, is reported to have fallen at a property in Rojales, near Torrevieja, south of Alicante, several days ago.
A 38-year-old woman, believed to be the septuagenarian’s daughter, and a 73-year-old man, believed to be a friend, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The couple are accused of failing to call emergency services after she fell in a domestic accident on the Costa Blanca.
Police sources say that he may have fallen three days before he died, but that his companions did not call for help because they were drinking a lot and under the influence of alcohol.

Rojales is located in south-west Spain, south of the British expat hotspot of Alicante.
However, the duo are said to have insisted on raising the alarm in the early hours of Tuesday morning after realizing she was dead.
Investigators are treating the death as homicide caused by omission. Radio Alicante reports that the Guardamar municipal police are leading the investigation.
It was not immediately clear if the dead woman had also been drinking before she fell to her death.
Alicante Civil Guard officers are expected to make an official comment later this week once the two British suspects appear in court for a remand hearing.
The detained man is believed to be a friend of the elderly woman, but it is not known if he lived on the property.
The Foreign Office said: “We are in contact with local authorities following the death of a British woman in Spain.”
