A British parliamentary investigator has been arrested on suspicion of spying for China in a major security breach at Westminster.
The man, in his mid-twenties, is believed to be related to a number of senior Conservative MPs, including some who have access to classified or highly sensitive information.
The suspect worked for several years alongside parliamentarians in international politics, including relations with Beijing, and was a parliamentary pass holder.
Among them are Tom Tugendhat, Minister of Security, and Alicia Kearn, president of the Foreign Affairs committee.
He was arrested along with another man on suspicion of espionage-related offenses on March 13.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s anti-terrorism command, which oversees espionage-related crimes, are investigating the case.
One of the men, aged in his 30s, was arrested in Oxfordshire on March 13, while the other, aged in his 20s, was arrested in Edinburgh, Scotland Yard said.
