A British mother on holiday in Dubai has described her horror at another hotel guest’s habit of dressing up by the pool.
TikTok user itsakatylife shared her disgust after seeing a “grown man” cutting his nails in a public pool before “pulling them all out of the towel and throwing them on the floor.”
“I need to know what you would do in this situation,” she told her 9,000 followers, receiving mixed responses.
“How come I am so shocked by the character of some people?” she said. “Please tell me I am not the only one who finds this completely disgusting.”
Followers shared shocking anecdotes of similar experiences: one said: “It happened to me on a bus in Glasgow” and another claimed he had even once seen a woman “cutting her nails in a restaurant”.
The mother said she heard a familiar click while sunbathing in Dubai.
Katy shared the post on TikTok on August 29 with her 9,000 followers, but her uncomfortable account of her experience led to the post being viewed more than 100,000 times.
“I’m sitting by the pool, watching the kids living their best life,” she told her followers, painting a picture of the scene.
“I’m sitting here, minding my business, right?, and I can hear this clicking.”
“And I say, ‘I know what that sound is. Please don’t let it be right next to where I’m sitting…'”
‘I know exactly what that sound is: a dirty pig is cutting its toenails about 15 feet away from me.
“A man, a grown man!, is cutting his toenails by the pool.”
Katy makes a face at the camera.
“Why can I be so surprised by the character of some people?” he asks himself.
“And the worst thing is that when he finished, he simply picked them all up from the towel and threw them on the floor.
‘Please tell me I’m not the only one who is totally disgusted by this.
“Trimming your toenails is a private activity. Don’t do it in a public pool.”
Katy’s message was heard by others with similar experiences, who took to the comments section to share their stories.
One user wrote: “It happened to me on the subway. The girl was sitting next to me filing her nails and putting on polish.”
Another said: ‘I was on a bus and a woman started picking dead skin off her feet and throwing it on the ground. What the hell is wrong with people?’
Lisa Jones said: ‘My ex used to cut them up and eat them.’
And Lulu added: ‘That’s nothing, I’m currently in Dubai and I saw a lady sitting by the pool picking dead skin off her heel and then spreading it in the water like cheese on a baked potato.’
Others expressed their solidarity with Katy’s plight from a sun lounger in Dubai.
“Why would you choose to do it in the pool and NOT in your room?! I would be furious!” rudette5 said.
“Oh no, that’s wrong in so many ways. Some people don’t do it,” said another.
“I know what that sound is… Please don’t let it sound right next to where I’m sitting,” she said.
“That’s ignorant and disgusting behavior. And it’s definitely something you do in private,” commented user Georgie Hoskyn.
“Even if your hotel looks beautiful through the reflection of your sunglasses, stay in a villa and avoid all this.”
Not everyone was completely convinced.

Another user said: “I’ve waxed my eyebrows on a lounge chair, but that’s about the limit. That’s just to save time in the bedroom afterwards.”
