A British man who has moved to the US to become the sole caregiver for his 52nd wife wants them to lose weight so that after ten years she can finally visit his family in the UK.
Simon Johnson, 52, moved from East Yorkshire to Tucson, Arizona, to live with the morbidly obese Shannon Lowery, 39, after they met playing online games and spends his time caring for his wife full-time.
But after a decade together, Shannon – who at one point could barely get out of bed due to her size – wants to lose weight so she can fly to the UK and meet Simon’s family.
Simon appeared on This Morning today and revealed that he is ‘100 percent behind’ Shannon weight loss journey – including going to the gym three times a week and following a low-calorie diet.

Last year, Shannon decided to make a change and enlisted the help of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan – known as Dr. Now – 76, the star of the show My 600lb Life
When asked what the couple would like to do after her weight loss, Shannon replied, “travel.”
She said she was desperate to meet ‘that family I haven’t seen yet’, adding, ‘I have to get myself there.’
‘I go to the gym three days a week. Simon helps me train for a day and then I have a trainer for two days, ”she said. “My goal is to get back to 500 pounds so I can have gastric bypass surgery.”
Last year, Shannon decided to make a change and enlisted the help of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan – known as Dr. Now – 76, the star of the show My 600lb Life.

Today Simon appeared on This Morning and revealed that he is “ 100 percent behind ” Shannon’s weight loss journey, which includes going to the gym three times a week and following a low-calorie diet.
The episode with the story of Shannon and Simon aired in the UK on Quest Red recently. Shannon made the grueling journey from Tucson to Dr. Now’s office in Houston, Texas, where she weighed 739 pounds or 52 stone.
She is one of the heaviest women to have appeared on the show and initially lost 2st13lbs (41lbs) on Dr. Now’s strict 1200 calorie low-carb diet, but would like to lose another 228 pounds.
“I am very unhappy,” she said this morning. ‘I work really hard to try to lose weight.
Simon insisted that he fullu support his wife’s weight loss, admitting that it took “ ten years to get this far ” and is a “ constant learning curve, ” but he hopes she will meet his family in due course.
Shannon had a difficult upbringing and spent her childhood alternating between her father, mother, grandmother, aunt and great aunt.

She weighed over 100 lbs (7st 2 lbs) at age seven, 250 lbs (18st 12 lbs) at 13 and at 17 was 450 lbs (32 stone 2 lbs)
“Growing up, I was tossed from relative to relative and when I lived with my mother, food was scarce,” she said.
“We were sent to my aunt’s house so we could eat because there was no food in the house, but at that point I thought I found out I was different from everyone else.”
It was when Shannon moved in with her father that she really started indulging in fast food.
“My dad worked as a fast food restaurant manager for several years and caring for a daughter alone was a learning experience for him,” Shannon said.

She weighed over 100 lbs (7st 2 lbs) at the age of seven, 250 lbs (18st 12 lbs) at 13 and at 17 was 450 lbs (32 stone 2 lbs).

Simon insisted that he fully supported his wife’s weight loss, admitting that ‘it took ten years to get this far’ and that it is a ‘constant learning curve’.
Shannon was 29 and lived in a nursing home, usually confined to her bedside when she met Simon who was gaming online.
Simon said it was ‘love at first sight’ and he moved to the US for good after marrying Shannon in 2011, as Shannon’s full-time caretaker.
“Shannon needs help with just about everything a normal person has to do,” Simon said earlier.
‘Simple things that we actually take for granted we can’t do right now, so I’ve become her caretaker and I’m more than happy to take care of her.
Shannon added: ‘Simon has to help me get up and go to the bathroom, he has to help me get up, get dressed, he cooks, he cleans, he does the laundry – he does everything.
“I’m just getting bigger and my life is getting worse, in this room with Simon taking care of me.”
