A British mountain climber died in an accident on Mallorca.
The man, presumably 20, was killed after allegedly falling around 60 feet on the rocks at Sa Foradada in the beautiful Tramuntana Mountains.
It is understood that he had been with a friend who was unharmed.
Firefighters and Guardians of the Mountain Guard tried to restore his body this afternoon after the disastrous war of 2.30 pm.
A police helicopter has been mobilized to try and assist with the operation.
The Serra de Tramuntana are the dramatic mountains along the north coast of Mallorca.
Sa Foradada, in the municipality of Deia, a favorite holiday destination for people like Sir Bob Geldof, is a small peninsula that offers one of the most remarkable vantage points in the area.
A restaurant stands high overlooking the characteristic rock formation at the end of Sa Foradada.
It is popular for nature lovers of all types, including walkers and bird watchers.
Sources at the fireworks service headquarters in Mallorca have confirmed that the dead man and his friend were both British.
& # 39; The first call came from a witness at 2.21 p.m. The dead person fell between 50 and 65 feet on rocks and died immediately, & the source said.
& # 39; It seems that he descended to the hole in the rock instead of climbing on the rock as he plunged into his death.
& # 39; The other man with him witnessed and was harmed, but receives psychological help.
& # 39; Firefighters specializing in mountain rescue of the stations of Inca and Soller are participating in the operation to save his body and the Guardia Civil helicopter is also involved.
& # 39; An investigation will of course take place to determine why this tragedy occurred. It is too early at this stage to venture what could have gone wrong. & # 39;
He added: & # 39; Sa Foradada is a very popular place and probably offers one of the best views on a postcard of the entire island if not the most beautiful.
& # 39; It is not a classic climbing route and you can easily reach the sea at the end of the rock formation on foot, as well as the hole in the rock, although it takes a little more effort to reach the hole. & # 39;
No one from the Civil Guard force was immediately available for comment this afternoon.
