A British child died after falling into a swimming pool during a vacation with his family in southern Spain.
The five-year-old was with his family in La Vinuela, a small village in the La Axarquia region on the Costa del Sol, and allegedly strayed while his parents were at breakfast.
The tragedy is said to have happened around 10 am this morning at the boy's expat grandfather.
The local police were the first to reach the premises after an emergency call.
The little boy was found unconscious after a helicopter to the Calle Las Coberteras, about 50 minutes drive northeast of Malaga in Andalusia.
Paramedics were also sent with an air ambulance, but there was nothing doctors could do to save the youngster's life and he was pronounced dead on the spot.

Researchers were told that the boy's parents were having breakfast inside the house when the young person walked away and fell into the pool, according to well-placed sources.
A neighbor said that his grandparents had lived in the area for years and that his father had grown up in the area.
The boy is believed to have a younger sister, a local resident about 18 months old.
It is unknown where in the UK the five-year-old came from.
Jose Juan Jimenez, mayor of La Vinuela, said: & # 39; The town hall is here for the family in everything they need.
& # 39; The grandfather lives here and the boy's father has spent time here. The little boy fell into the pool and did not know how to swim. & # 39;
& # 39; I deeply deplore the terrible tragedy that has taken place today and want to give this young person's loved ones all the support they need in such a difficult time for them. & # 39;
A post-mortem is expected to take place later today at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Malaga.
None of the members of the family involved in the tragedy has been mentioned.

A source at a coordination center for emergency medical services said the boy was pulled out of the water unconscious.
He added: & # 39; At 10 o'clock & # 39; Called in the morning that a child had fallen into a swimming pool and was pulled out but was unconscious.
& # 39; The incident happened in an area of La Vinuela called Los Romanes.
& # 39; The Civil Guard, the local police and the ambulance service have been warned.
& # 39; An air ambulance was sent to the scene along with a regular ambulance, but we were later told that the boy had died. The local police said he was four. & # 39;
A routine investigation into the probe has been initiated, which will be coordinated by a local investigating judge.
