A British boxing champion has died while snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef on holiday with his girlfriend.
Cam Shaw, 25, died Monday while visiting Queensland with his partner and two friends.
The ex-professional boxer from York, who was also a fully qualified ski instructor in Switzerland, was praised by his father Rod as a ‘nice, helpful and sociable guy’.

The grieving father said the family “didn’t realize how popular he was until now.”
He said: ‘We don’t know exactly what happened, but we know Cam drowned and the investigation is ongoing.
“He was a strong swimmer – I taught him to swim at Water World in York when he was two and a half and he reached nine of the possible eleven levels.
“He was a fit boy.”
Cam won the Amateur Boxing Association’s 60kg Elite title in 2018 and the gold medal at the prestigious Hivdovre Box Cup in Denmark the year before.
He turned professional, but his career was halted due to Covid.
His father added: ‘He was a professional boxer and fought five fights.
“He won them all, but then Covid hit and he had to put it aside.

“He became a fully qualified ski instructor in Switzerland and he had just spent a season in New Zealand and he wanted to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Great Barrier Reef.
“Cam excelled at everything he did and we didn’t realize how popular he was until now. We are blown away.
“We just knew he was a jovial, helpful and sociable man – he put all his effort into everything he did.”
Queensland Police said: ‘The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, but it is not considered suspicious.
“Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner after a man’s body is found near a reef off the coast of Cairns around noon Monday.”
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said: ‘We are providing consular support to the family of a British man who died in Australia.’
