Fears are growing for ‘beautiful’ and ‘good-hearted’ British backpackers who did not come to work in New Zealand after a walk
Missing: Stephanie Simpson, 32
There is a desperate search for a British backpacker who is missing in New Zealand.
Stephanie Simpson, 32, told friends she was going to hike the weekend in Mount Aspiring National Park on the South Island.
The alarm went off when she didn’t show up at her landscape architecture on Monday.
A police investigation including a helicopter found no sign of her.
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding around the national park where two walkers were found dead in a swollen river on Friday.
It is believed that Miss Simpson, who moved to Wanaka last year after traveling to Australia, went for a walk alone.
Friends said she was an experienced walker.
‘She is strong, she is fit, she is capable. She has worked outdoors, she knows what she is up to, “a friend told the New Zealand Herald.
“She is a very nice, kind-hearted person. She can make friends in an instant, she is great. She’s only here to sail and see the land, “the friend added.
