British Airways cancels more than 100 flights due to a technical problem

Date:

British Airways canceled nearly 100 flights between Thursday and Friday at London’s Heathrow airport due to a technical problem.

The British company confirmed, Friday, in a statement, a copy of which was received by Agence France-Presse, that the “vast majority” of flights are continuing after the cancellation of “some flights on short routes departing from Heathrow Airport following a technical problem” Thursday.

Heathrow’s website states that “due to a technical issue that was resolved overnight” Thursday-Friday, “it is likely that there will be some cancellations and delays upon arrival or departure” from the airport on Friday.

The airline did not specify the total number of canceled flights due to the technical problem.

According to aviation advisory group Cirium, British Airways canceled 175 flights in two days, affecting more than 20,000 passengers.

On the other hand, the “Unite” union intends to carry out a strike by security guards at Heathrow Airport this weekend, and it may “disrupt (this strike) the travel plans of some passengers.”

These disturbances come after airports witnessed chaos a year ago due to staff shortages and labor shortages in the country, as a result of the recovery phase following the Covid-19 pandemic and Britain’s exit from the European Union.

UK motorists’ organisation, RAC, expects more than 19 million road trips in the UK during the weekend to Monday.
