The 19-year-old was allegedly attacked on the Greek island of Zakynthos.
The shocking news comes after an investigation revealed that an 18-year-old woman took her own life after being drugged and raped while on holiday on the same island.
Julie Crowe, 18, from Dunshaughlin, County Meath in Ireland, died after jumping from a bridge over the M3 motorway near Rathbeggan Lakes on November 4, 2019.
Dublin District Coroner’s Court heard how Julie had developed a bad mood and thoughts of self-harm after being attacked while on holiday in Zakynthos with friends in August 2019.
Julie’s mother Anna told RTE in 2020, just two months after her daughter committed suicide, that Julie realized only after speaking to friends that she had been raped during her stay on the Greek island of Zakynthos. .
A psychiatrist who examined Julie in October 2019 told the inquest he had diagnosed her with post-traumatic stress disorder and a moderate depressive episode.
Dr Omer Chaudhary said Julie had also confessed her homosexuality to her friends in June 2019 and to her family after returning from her holiday in Greece.
He recalled that the teenager complained of not being able to cope with the situation and said that she was suffering more and more nightmares.
However, Chaudhary said he had not shown any active intention or plan to commit suicide.
