An irate mother has revealed she was charged a $50 cleaning fee after her two-year-old son peed in a ball pit at a children’s play center.
Yan, from Brisbane, said she would take her toddler son to the Cream House Premium Cafe every Wednesday so they could enjoy a music lesson, followed by lunch and playtime in the playhouse.
On Wednesday, June 23, the mother said her infant son ran to her in tears after accidentally getting himself wet while playing on the slide, despite taking him to the bathroom just 10 minutes earlier.
“My two and a half year old son accidentally wet the playhouse. He went to play on the slide and accidentally urinated,” she wrote in a one-star review online.
“I didn’t try to hide it or run away as soon as my son told me he had an accident. I cleaned all the places where he urinated (he told me where it was). He does potty training and doesn’t wear a diaper.”

Shortly after she cleaned up the mess, she was given a $50 cleaning fee after employees found urine “everywhere in the ball pit.”
But the mom accidentally overheard $15 because of the noise levels in the playroom — and so she was happy to pay the fee and leave.
Upon checking her receipt at home, the shocked mother realized she had paid $51 — which included an additional $1 credit card surcharge.
She called the cafe and demanded that they send her the policy from the center.
“They sent me the rules of the playhouse, but it didn’t say anything about the fine and how much I had to pay for such an accident,” Yan explained.
“If there are terms at the entrance or wall to state the entry condition, I’ll gladly pay for the fine.
‘We’ve been following the music lesson for two terms for 20 weeks, I’ve never seen a policy where a customer had to pay a fine. I never noticed it.’

Cream House owner Rachel said customers are normally charged a $50 cleaning fee when they need to hire a professional cleaning service.
“The cost of commercial cleaning is $130. It’s not an easy job that we can do because we have to make sure that the public space is cleaned up. We are a cafe, I have to think of all the kids who come here,” Rachel told the Daily Mail Australia.
Rachel said it wasn’t the first time Yan’s son urinated at her location.
“Her son has already urinated three times in other parts of our cafe. The first two times we just quietly cleaned it because it was on the floor so it was easy, but the third time he was peeing all over the ball pit,” she said.
“I didn’t pee in the ball pit, but I have to pay for commercial cleaning. It’s a huge job that cost us $130.
“As a small business owner and a mom, every $1 we earn is important to us. I know it’s hard being a mother, but I have to take responsibility for the other families.”
Rachel said she only charged one other family with a $50 cleaning fee after their child vomited at the playhouse.
“The parents apologized, they came to tell us right away. When we told them about the cleaning fee, they were happy to pay – no drama,” she said.
