A family was left horrified after discovering a red-bellied black snake hidden among stuffed toys in their daughter’s bed.

The venomous reptile was found at a home in Jimboomba, southwest of Brisbane, on Sunday morning.

The horrified family immediately called a snake catcher to remove it.

Bryan Lockett from Snake Catchers Brisbane & Gold Coast arrived at the property and worked quickly to remove the snake from the bed.

A chilling video was shared on Facebook and captured the moment Lockett gently guided the creature to the ground.

“Definitely not what you want in bed,” Mr. Lockett said.

He then helped the reptile slide into a white bag before the snake was taken away.

Hundreds of social media users expressed their fears following the horrific discovery.

“Well I’m not moving to Jimboomba in a hurry,” one wrote.

“My worst nightmare,” wrote another.

‘MY GOD. I hope he wasn’t there when the kid was sleeping,” a third added.

It is believed the snake entered the room through a door that was open.

Red-bellied black snakes are highly venomous and can be deadly to humans; however, very few deaths have been recorded.

The snakes are mainly found along the east coast of Australia.

Anyone approaching a red-bellied snake is advised not to approach or attack the creature, as it may strike back when confronted.

When a snake is detected, people should stay back and leave enough space between themselves and the reptile.

Snakes are also experts at disguising themselves, so people should refrain from walking in high grassy areas to avoid accidentally stepping on them.
