A handful of viral TikTok videos show you how to make a Louis Vuitton bag at home for just $ 45.

The videos do not show how to make a fake version of the designer brand bins – which is illegal in the US under federal trademark law – but rather demonstrate how to make a unique new tote bag with one of Louis Vuitton’s shopping bags and a PVC tote bag.

In recent months, Louis Vuitton’s tote-style bags, particularly the Weetego monogrammed design, which costs between $ 2,630 and $ 5,300 depending on size and style, have become must-have items for fashion fans around the world. But for many, the sky-high price tag puts the bag well beyond their budget.

But now, crafty style enthusiasts can put their own personal spin on the trend by creating their own version of the tote bag for just a fraction of the price.

It is unclear where the idea came from, although the TikTok user Erika Nina shared her version on Feb. 23.

She showed how she started with a Louis Vuitton orange paper grocery bag and a $ 45 DIY kit. Totery

First she carefully cuts out the fabric handles.

She turns to the DIYer, opens the clear PVC box and fits around the outside of the LV grocery bag before tucking in the overhangs to surround the paper on all sides and a hard base at the bottom adds.

Then she punches holes and uses a set of screws to attach a leatherette handle to each side.
