Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has withdrawn from the Uruguay squad ahead of their two international friendlies later this month due to “physical problems”.

Nunez reportedly injured his hamstring during Liverpool’s 4-3 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.

The striker, who was criticized for poor defending before United’s fourth and final goal, played the full 120 minutes and appeared to leave the pitch without any problems.

However, the 24-year-old has now been withdrawn from the Uruguay squad – although reports indicate this is more of a precautionary measure than a serious injury.

Nunez is not the only player to have been removed from international duty as a precaution. Withdrawal of Gabriel Magalhaes from the Brazil squad for the upcoming friendlies against England and Spain.

The Brazilian Football Federation confirmed his withdrawal from the team on Monday, with Juventus central defender Bremer named as his replacement.

“I had already communicated previously that we would work with a slightly more complete list,” explained Brazilian coach Dorival Junior.

“A prior call – we can put it that way – and again, today we had another victim. Unfortunately, Gabriel Magalhaes is not called up. In his place, we call Bremer, from Juventus.

Nunez is expected to be fit enough for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on March 31.

Liverpool currently sit second in the table, level on points with leaders Arsenal, while third-placed Manchester City are just one point behind.

Each team has 10 matches remaining and will be looking to field their best XI as they fight to get their hands on the trophy.
